The Bachelor: Mary Delgado and Byron Velvick on Their Domestic Dispute
Last November, The Bachelor franchise encountered some rough road, with Brad Womack deciding to not choose DeAnna Pappas or Jenni Croft in the finale of the reality dating series. Surely, it might have been good for publicity's sake, but more and more fans began to feel that the show isn't successful at all at matchmaking. Following that big reality TV surprise, one of the few relatively successful couples to come from the series, Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado, who met on season 6 of The Bachelor, went through some rough times made public when Mary was arrested for assaulting the former Bachelor.
The couple recently stepped forward to talk about the incident and the trouble between them, which caused the conflict. The two recently appeared on The Bachelor, the reality dating game which eventually led the two to their engagement. Because of this, some people speculated that Mary and Bryan's fight was related to their as-yet unwed status.
"That's so far from the truth," Mary told Inside Edition. "It was a lot of things. It was something that just kind of got out of hand."
The two were actually watching The Bachelor: After the Final Rose at another couple's home when their hosts got into an argument. A little later, Mary and Byron also found themselves in a disagreement, as well about whether or not to leave. The two then headed out to their vehicle, were the argument turned into a heated fight. Mary then struck Byron, and he went inside to clean up and call the police.
Despite calling the police, Byron admitted that he did not actually intend for things to go as far as they did. Mary was immediately arrested and charged with battery.
"I tried to stop [the police] when they were thinking about doing that. I was shocked, stunned and very concerned," he said.
Mary said that the whole incident "was humiliating." She added, "It's just indescribable. A lot of things go through your mind. From my mug shot you could see I cried nonstop."
"Just because you met on a reality show, got engaged on this beautiful incredible setting doesn't mean that we're Prince Charming or Beautiful Princess," Byron explained. "It's nothing like that. It's just a real couple going through real things."
