Earlier this month, Grey’s Anatomy’s Eric Dane became the cover story for OK! Magazine’s February 18 issue. Splashed across the cover was the headline “My Fight Against Cancer” in a story attributed to the actor.



Last week, Dane, who plays Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, refuted the said story, citing that it depicted his medical condition in grossly exaggerated terms.



"Eric Dane does not have cancer,” the actor’s representative announced. “He spoke with OK [magazine] to clear up some inaccuracies they were planning to run."



Aside from the statement, Dane is reportedly considering taking legal action against the widely-circulated publication. It turns out that Dane did actually undergo treatment for a skin condition. The Grey’s Anatomy co-star had some malignant cells on his upper lip that required freezing with liquid nitrogen. His representative clarified however, that Dane’s ordeal "certainly does not compare with those actually suffering from the disease."



When news of the OK! piece first began circulating, it was reported that Dane narrated how his cancer scare unfolded.



"I went to my dermatologist,” the actor allegedly said in the interview. “He said it was malignant tissue caused by sun damage." Dane then reportedly added that he developed a severe reaction to the battery of treatments he underwent, saying, "My skin is very sensitive and my lip was traumatized by the procedure I had to go through."



The OK! article in question also allegedly reported that after Dane managed to win his battle with the big C, he has since been on a mission to warn people against the dangers of sun exposure.



"This is probably something that happened so long ago, but you past [sic] the point of no return with this stuff," Dane reportedly said. "I wasn't so vigilant then, I am now. And I think everybody should be."
